The Truth About the New Year

I’m wondering if we got the New Year off to a rocky start? Sometimes I think it should be all glitzy and shiny, but that’s not how we roll here, now is it?

Because here’s the truth of it all: it’s just another page on the calendar.

Yes, yes. I know. Clean slate. Fresh start. Great intentions. Resolve to be better. And I can see the beauty in that and appreciate it. After all, I love a fresh blanket of snow from the cozy side of my window as much as the next girl.

Things only looks pretty and new for so long.

Once you start moving around things start to look messy. That mess can leave us wondering what that means for us and our good intentions and resolutions to be anything other than what we were only days ago.

Turning the page on a calendar doesn’t change who we are.

I’m the same person I was a few weeks ago.

I still love chocolate and I haven’t instantly organized my garage. My pants are the same size as they were, and my emotions still ride too close to the surface.

Do you know what else is the same?

I am loved.

And so are you.

This year, let's make one choice: to believe God loves us. Click To Tweet

God loved you the same last month as you were eating Christmas cookies as He does this month as you are eating salad.

He loved you the same three months ago and He’ll love you the same three months from now. God loves us just as we are, everyday, every year.

This year, let’s make one choice: to believe God loves us.

And when we forget, when the newness has worn off and the snow looks dirty, that’s okay too. Because God loves us whether we believe it or not.

Sometimes the new year is full of great new horizons, but there are always some things that stay the same.
