3 Things I Love About It Is Finished by Charles Martin

It’s no secret around here that I love books, and I’m excited about this one from Charles Martin. It Is Finished: A 40-Day Pilgrimage Back to the Cross is perfect for any time of the year but lends itself to Lent nicely with 40 daily chapters. Also, it’s not gender specific. The book is good for all believers, whether they’ve walked with God for a day or for decades. This book takes all readers on a journey they won’t forget.

A Firm Foundation

The book is based on the Bible. I know that sounds weird to say. “Of course it is based on the Bible! It’s a Christian book!” But not all of them are. And even when they are the foundation isn’t always solid. This one is.

The book is full of Scripture to help you understand Jesus’ journey to the cross and His love.

It’s All There

The verses are included in full, in red letters. There’s something about seeing those words in RED that is POWERFUL. Plus, I don’t need to go get my Bible and go back and forth. It’s all on the page, making it easy for you to connect with the Word as Martin helps you understand its significance.

The Simplicity of It Is Finished

The words are simple, honest, and direct. It speaks right to the heart. Martin is an excellent storyteller (he’s one of my favorite fiction authors.) When he takes you on a journey to the cross in these pages, he helps you understand the story of Jesus so you feel it. It’s not overly academic or theological. It’s simply the Word, broken down so you can know Jesus more.

You can find more of my posts about books here. Each month I share a short letter with my email friends. We chat about things we’re thinking about and what I’ve been reading, watching, listening to, and loving. Sometimes it’s a quick encouragement. Other times we chat about chocolate. It’s all part of this great big beautiful (and complex) life! Want to get on the list? Sign up here. I can’t wait to connect!

  • Let’s Talk About Grace in the New Year

The new year is always a bit of a struggle, but not in the way you’d expect. I love goals. The idea of checking lists and achieving things comes naturally to me. (That’s not to say it is easy, believe me!) It’s just the way my brain works.

The thing that’s not so easy for me? Grace. That’s what I need to be intentional about.
