These quick prayers will help you connect with God even when you aren’t sure what to say.
Sometimes I don’t know what to say to God.
That’s hard to admit because it feels like I’m always supposed to know. I’m a Christian and he’s God, so it should be simple. But sometimes it’s not. I know I can tell him anything. But there are times when I can’t seem to collect my feelings, gather them into a neat, tidy package, and offer them to God. But God isn’t looking for neat, tidy packages. He’s just looking for our hearts.
Yet, as much as I know that to be true, I still struggle to find words sometimes. Sometimes I need help. Sometimes we all need help. When you’re having trouble gathering your feelings, when you feel frustrated or alone, or just when you have no idea where to even start, you can come to God.
Here are 5 quick prayers to get your conversations with God started:
When You Have No Idea Where to Start
Start by telling Him that. Tell Him right where you are. Tell Him that you need help because you don’t know where to start. He’s so faithful to help us!
When You Feel Overwhelmed
God already knows all the things we are feeling, even when we’re overwhelmed. He is a loving Father that wants to help us sort through the overwhelm to find peace in Him.
When You Need Direction
It’s easy to feel a bit lost and lacking clear direction in this world of endless options and opportunities. God knew we’d need help with that! Start with a step and see where God takes you.
When You Feel Afraid or Worried
There are so many things we don’t know or understand. When things feel out of control in our lives, fear and worry take over. But God wants to help.
When You Need to Remember the Good
Sometimes we just lose track of all the good. The daily responsibilities and stresses can make us lose track of the goodness and faithfulness of God. It’s easy to do. But so is asking Him to remind you.
Friend, when you are struggling with what to say to God, remember: He is faithful to help us with everything we need, even our prayers! Start by praying one of these simple prayers today and see what else you and God can talk about. He’s ready for you.

Good morning, Rebecca … sometimes we need a bit of a nudge, a guide, even for the simplest conversations with God. You’ve done that here! What an encouragement …
Thanks friend! I know I need help sometimes!
These are fabulous; especially the feeling overwhelmed one. I often find that I am trying to say so many things at once that I just can’t focus.
I know that feeling well! I hope this helps!
What a lovely set of go-to prayers when we’re all out of words!
Thanks friend!
Rebecca, thank you for these great prayers. I will recall these when I don’t know what to say. blessings.
So glad they helped!
Rebecca, these are such great prayers. God has been bringing me back to the truth that, at its essence, prayer is simply talking with God. Each of the prayers you share encourage this. Thank you!
It really is so simple.
I like how we can start by asking the Lord for help! And feeling overwhelmed, we certainly need His peace. Sometimes what is simple, we make complicated.
I am an expert at complicating things! LOL So grateful He is ready to help!
Prayer often feels like an arrow shot from a fiery bow! So glad God knows my every thought!
Yes! It is so helpful to remember that He already knows!
I love that “help me to look to you for the next steps instead of looking for a map” That is so true – I often think I would like to see my whole journey planned out in detail! But God calls us to trust in Him and just gives us one step at a time….
Yup! One step at a time with Him is better than going my own way with a map I drew myself.
These are great. And I’m so glad we have an intercessor who speaks to God for us!
Amen! He’s so amazing!
This is a great tip for prayer–to just start wherever we are. One former pastor said that one of his best times of prayer began when he had to confess that he didn’t feel like praying. But he did, and as he went on, things broke open before the Lord and he had a wonderful time of fellowship.
That’s awesome Barbara! I love it!
Rebecca,
I loved your quick prayers. I either pinned or scheduled each graphic. Thank you for sharing with Grace & Truth Link-Up. Maree
That means so much! Thanks friend!
Rebecca, I am featuring your post tomorrow on Grace & Truth Link-Up. I love your post plus I am writing on prayer so it fits perfectly together. Maree
Maree! Thanks so much! Have a beautiful day!
Rebecca, I really enjoyed this post and I’m excited to share it with others. There are lots of times when we really don’t know what to say. Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing!
Such good prayers. And they don’t need to be long. Sometimes we think we need to fill lots of time and space. But short direct prayers are just as effective. beautiful pictures and words.
Thanks friend! I know even the shortest prayers help me feel more connected to God.
I love your first tip. It’s so simple, but sometimes we forget that we can always come to God—even with an “I don’t know where to start.” It brings to mind Romans 8:26 where Paul says the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us with groans too deep for words. Such a comforting thought.
I’ve always found it so comforting that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us!
Hi Rebecca.
I love this–“God isn’t looking for neat, tidy packages. He’s just looking for our hearts.” Just. Beautiful. And I’m so grateful it’s true!
Thank you for these prayers, the beautiful graphics, and the reminder that God only wants my heart.
Blessings,
Tammy
Thanks so much, friend. Isn’t it awesome how much He loves us right where we are?!
