Reading is one of my favorite things. But so are tv and sleep. That makes it hard to keep up with my usual plan to read one fiction and one nonfiction at a time. I’m finding balance again after I made some changes to get out of my reading rut over the summer.

Here’s what I read in October:
The Record Keeper by Charles Martin
This book is the final book in a trilogy I was surprised to love. I don’t know why I was surprised, it is by Charles Martin who has become one of my favorite fiction writers. The Record Keeper is the final book in the story of Murphy Shepherd. It is full of emotion and tension like the first two books (although I did find them to be a bit more engaging.) I will warn you that these books deal with sensitive topics, but I found the stories redeeming in the most beautiful and unexpected ways.
Hidden Manna on a Country Road by Sarah Geringer
I love the way Sarah Geringer writes about faith with such simple honesty. It makes me feel more connected to God and myself. Her new release takes you on a journey of the seasons as she walks out her faith, literally, on her country roads. Hidden Manna on a Country Road illustrates how God meets her in the midst of her pain, sorrow, and joy while reminding you to look for the amazing ways He also meets you right where you are.
Wrong Place, Wrong Time by Gillian McAllister
I don’t know what made me pick this book up other than the fact that Reese Witherspoon recommended it. It was about a murder (which I don’t often seek out) and time travel (which isn’t usually my jam.) But there was something about the story in Wrong Place, Wrong Time that drew me in. Perhaps it was the idea that we could go back and see (or maybe prevent?) an awful thing that happens. Even more likely it was a mom trying to do understand her teenage son and his shocking act. Whatever it was, I’m glad I read it.
I’d be most tempted to add Sarah’s book to my stack! She writes with such honesty and insight. Thanks for sharing your list. I always love seeing the books that others are reading.
