The Best Devotionals for the Whole Family

Devotionals are a great way to help us grow in our faith, even when life feels busy. Check out these devotional ideas for the whole family.

As I tucked my kids my kids in for the night and walked down the hall all I could think was: another day and I didn’t even teach them about Jesus. I felt like I was failing in growing my kids up in their faith but I didn’t know how to change it.

Something needed to change.

I knew it had to be simple. I couldn’t handle anything complicated or incredibly time consuming. And I couldn’t seem to figure it out on my own. That’s where devotionals came in.

Devotionals offer short, guided thoughts about a scripture or faith principle, and they are only a page or two long. That feels doable.

Here are some favorites for each age group that work in real life:

Under 5

These little ones love stories and time with the people they love. Starting with a simple kids story Bible is a great way to develop a love of God’s Word in their daily life. This cute devotional is also a great addition.

Elementary

Keeping stories fun and interesting helps kids stay interested in the Bible. Bibles like this are a great way to keep stories age appropriate. And something like the Kids Read Truth studies from the makers of She Reads Truth is interactive and fun, and this devotional will be something for your whole family to remember!

Tweens

Make it simple but not too juvenile. That’s the cry of a tween’s heart, even with something like Bible reading. Kids love this Bible because the comic book style is so engaging. If your tween likes to draw this Bible is a favorite for girls. You can also find devotionals like these for boys and girls.

Teens

They want it on their terms, which makes it tricky to encourage teens. Having options available helps them find what works best for them. Great ideas for teen girls are Live in the Light and Unique, while teen boys will enjoy this 3 minute devotional. All teens will love #truth!

College

You can still encourage your college student’s faith with great resources. Digital options like YouVersion has many great devotionals based on different topics or life stages. Some great books include this graduate edition and this practical tool.

A Special Note for Parents: Devotionals for You!

The most important thing you can do to encourage your kids in their faith is to model the value of connecting with God daily. This book offers quick devotions for mom while this one is a bit more substantial. Dad’s will enjoy these prayers and this trusted resource.

Connecting with God regularly can be simple and will keep your kids (and you) focused on the most important things, even in the midst of busy schedules.
