I hate September. Well, maybe not everything about September.
After all, there are sweatshirts and apples and cool nights. Those are the saving graces, because the rest brings me to my knees.
The Shift
Shifting from a summer mindset into a school mindset is rough, even without a global pandemic. I’m not just talking bedtimes and early wakeups either.
There’s first days and open houses and picnics and back to school nights, some in person, some virtual. The sports schedules get underway and the school supply lists get longer every year. And the beginning of the year forms are enough to make a grown woman cry. It’s a lot.
We’re supposed to do it all with a smile on our face, a homemade dinner in the oven, and perfect hair. (I’d settle for one of the three!)
The Original Plan
I made a note in my planner last week. There’s a spot to write your weekly focus. It was the week my kids went back to school and my one word was: SURVIVE. Yup. That was it. My one goal. And if you’re reading this, it means we did. (YAY!!!)
We survived the shopping and the lunch packing and the what to wear to look cool but not like you’re trying too hard. Everyone made it through the I-can’t-sleep the night before and the early wake-up. We survived it all.
I should be celebrating but I still feel overwhelmed.
The New Plan
So, I’m turning the page. Clean slate, new week, new word.
GRACE
I have a feeling this will be a month-long pursuit until the leaves, and my heart, begin to change and settle into new rhythms.
I’m relearning a few lessons. I’m looking for things like joy, peace, goodness — these are sounding a bit familiar.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. The law is not against such things.
Galatians 5:22-23, CSB
While we’re in this place of fresh starts and clean slates, sometimes we cling to control and structure. Believe me, I know. But what if we could discover the fruits of the spirit more as we order our days?
The Spiritual Seeds Planner is all about living the fruit-filled, Holy Spirit led life we long for. Instead of focusing on achievement, this planner guides you to spiritual growth as you plan your days.
It’s all too easy to get wrapped up in the checklists and the schedules and the busyness of a new season. But what if we went to God instead?
Friend, we don’t need to be consumed with chaos and busy and stress. We can embrace the grace of a new season with JOY and PEACE in Jesus!
such a good and beautiful reminder for the week ahead! start with grace…it is how we best can “survive” on Him, actually. All is grace in His Presence.
God bless
mariel
All is grace indeed!
Happy first day of autumn!
You’ve got this!
Best of all, God’s got YOU!
You too, friend. You too!
I hate August (that’s when summer ends and school starts in my state). My husband and I are both educators, and stresses run high as we prepare. The heat melts my mind and sets my temper on edge. I survived August, now I need a good dose of September grace!
September grace! I love it!
I love the idea of fresh starts and clean slates! It’s something I always look forward to in the fall. This is a great reminder to use this season wisely:)
So glad you’re here, Cindy!
I’m having to relearn a few lessons too. I’m glad God is more patient with me than I am. 🙂 I have mixed feelings about September. It brings with it a certain melancholy but also a form of settling in my soul.
The soul settling is nice!
Encouraging post, friend. Shared on Twitter and Pinterest. I’d settle for perfect hair too!
Lol. Glad I’m not the only one! (and thanks for sharing!)
I hope planners play more of a role in 2021 –
AMEN!
Oh how my prayer journal breathes new life into my weary soul, especially when the transitions of life are overtaking me, Rebecca! Thanks for sharing so honestly but most of all for pointing us to God, who makes the beauty of the new season shine through! Praying for you and all your mommy duties!
Thank you sweet friend! Praying the same for you! So glad your prayer journal feeds your soul!
I remember those days when a new school year begins. For me, it looked like not only getting everything in order for my sons but for me as well as a teacher. That adds one more layer onto trying to survive the month of September. Thank you for sharing about the planner.
Yes! It’s hectic, especially when you’re a teacher too! I always felt like the year begins in September not January!
Your description of getting back into the swing of things is so accurate! I can relate. The planner is beautiful, Rebecca.
Blessings,
Tammy
I hope you entered to win one!
Isn’t it the truth? God is looking out for us through all the changes. But I think he must be hoping that I’ll trust him better and deeper when things seem worse or overwhelming. 2020 should bring the fruit of abiding in him in stark relief against those who still don’t understand that they are not in control and that they are loved all the way to the cross and back.
I just love the word ABIDE. It’s filled with so much relief and release to GOD!
Always enjoy your candid and relatable humor to the common things in life. It’s a great tool to drive home spiritual truths in a practical and authentic sense. I also pray to discover the fruits of the Spirit more.
Thanks friend! You’re such a gift of encouragement to me (and so many!)
