When you think of your favorite things, what Bible verses come to mind?
For me, it’s tricky because I remember parts of them. I haven’t memorized Scripture well since high school (which was a little while back now!) I know the value in it, but right now I’m just happy to make space to read His Word.
As we spend the summer talking about favorite things, from books to chocolate and everything else that matters, I thought about some of the Bible verses that make a difference in my life.
Here are a few of my favorite Scriptures that bring hope no matter what I’m facing.
When You’re Worn Out
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
Isn’t this freeing? God understands when we’re worn out. And He tells us exactly what to do that will help! (And I love it in this version!)
When You’re Worried
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB)
I admit that I’ve done this out of obedience more than feeling thankful. But God does something special with our obedience.
When You Feel Alone
“Be strong. Take courage. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t give them a second thought because God, your God, is striding ahead of you. He’s right there with you. He won’t let you down; he won’t leave you.”
Deuteronomy 31:6 (MSG)
It’s easy to forget that God is with me. But this reminder speaks truth: He’s always with us.
When You Feel Defeated
Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
Matthew 19:26 (CSB)
Jesus doesn’t tell us that some things are possible. He tells us ALL things are possible with God. YES!
When You Can’t See the Way
Your word is a lamp for my feet
Psalm 119:105 (CSB)
and a light on my path.
God promises to show us the way. I usually think that means He’ll give me the whole map. But as Jamie B. Golden says, “God’s word is a lamp unto my feet, not my football field.”
When You Doubt God’s Plan for You
“Before I shaped you in the womb,
Jeremiah 1:5 (MSG)
I knew all about you.
Before you saw the light of day,
I had holy plans for you.”
God has a plan for us. And it is good. Always.
When You Need to Know Who God Is
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
Revelation 1:8 (CSB)
When I remember who God is, that He is the beginning and the end of all things, I can rest knowing I don’t have to be.

I’m reading Sensible Shoes in a book club right now, and it starts out with the Matthew 11 passage with The Message translation. Peterson brought that verse right into everyday life. Thanks for sharing it here as a pathway to hope.
Isn’t Sensible Shoes a great book?! I loved it!
Such a great assortment of verses! God really does have the answer for all times. How humbling! x
Amen, girl!
And today more than ever we need to believe
AMEN!
Great hope-filled message full of God’s Word, Rebecca. I’m a hope girl at the core of who I am and it’s the theme of my blog. Love the passages you highlight here and especially Matthew 11:28-30 and Jeremiah 1:5 in the Message.
I love how those versions speak to my heart in different ways! Keep sharing hope, friend!

Thanks friend. Sometimes I forget them and wonder why it feels like I’m drifting a thousand miles away. Grateful to come back to them!
Thank you for sharing the verses and lovely pictures. Many blessings.
So glad you liked them Christina!
don’t you just love how those childhood verses come back in the night? in King James english.
i’m not doing any kind of memorization in this season, but that hasn’t stopped all those verses from Scripture, all those hymns from childhood from taking center stage in mind and heart when i need them most.
Yes! God doesn’t waste anything, especially His Word hidden in your heart!
Going to be praying some of these verses over my family this week. Thank you. laurensparks.net
Yay!
Scripture support is superior, dealing with support of 44 yr old daughter having 5 th surgury, bless her Doctor,
Praying for her!
Thank you for these verses of encouragement, The one from Deuteronomy 31:6 really spoke to me today. Your images are also a great reflection of God’s nature and presence.
I love that verse! It brings so much HOPE!
This is a great Scripture list, Rebecca! I cling to Romans 8:1. It gives me so much hope, because while I know I fail and fall short, I can stand forgiven at the cross.
Amen, friend!
Thank you for sharing these hopeful Bible verses with us, Rebecca. I love the one from Revelations too. I think about that often. Being a runner, of course, I love this verse from Isaiah: “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
amen! What a great reminder (especially when I’m feeling a bit weary!)
Since “hope” is my One Word for 2019, I appreciate your list here, Rebecca! Thanks for sharing this list and for the pictures too. I love Lamentations 3…This I call to mind and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end.
That’s so good! A great reminder of His faithfulness!
Thank you for these amazing reminders. I take comfort in God’s words!
Always great to share!
You chose some of my favorite verses. I love the Message version of Matthew 11. It always speaks to me right where I am. I also love the verse from Jeremiah 1. It makes me think of Psalm 139:15-16.
Yes! It’s so comforting to know that all my days were planned before I even existed!
Great words of encouragement
Thank you for these.
Amen
Thank you so much for the awesome verses. I love Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thine ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths.
I thank God for His goodness, grace and mercy.
I thank God for you as well.
